Abaca for a Greener, More Sustainable Future

At Tatiana Tafur, we are very conscious of the planet and the harm caused by the different materials  available to the interior world.

With this in mind, we are working hard to develop further our Abaca collection of wallcoverings, rugs and sun shades; this material is wholly sustainable and naturally renewable. Furthermore, we help to support an indigenous community where it is grown, harvested and manufactured in the foothills of a volcano in the Philippines.

Abaca, sometimes known as Manila Hemp (Musa Textilis) is a close relative of the banana plant and is environmentally friendly.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, Abaca can be utilised for erosion control and biodiversity rehabilitation by intercropping abaca in former monoculture agricultural land.
